The Fifth Annual
47:59 PLAY FESTIVAL
Writing in Rotation

produced by
Marielle Duke&
John Hurley

Returning for its golden 5th year, the 47:59 Festival: Writing in Rotation- a fierce race against the clock to write, rehearse and perform six brand new plays in exactly 47 hours and 59 minutes. Each of our six playwrights will write a first act of a new work over the course of one evening. The following morning, the piece is handed off to the director and actors, who rehearse the piece for performance that evening. After the first act comes down - that's when things get really interesting! The playwrights rotate and write the second act of one of their colleague's works from the previous evening. So: two phenomenal nights of theater - created, directed, produced and performed in 47 hours and 59 minutes. 2 great prices: $25 for both nights ($15 for one)! And enough energy drinks chugged to last a lifetime. The 5th Annual 47:59. Centerstage, NY.

12th Night of the Living Dead

12th NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD
(an extreme staged reading)

written by William Shakespeare
adapted by Brian MacInnis Smallwood
directed by John Hurley

In the latter half of the year 1601, William Shakespeare brought his new work, Twelfth Night, to his contemporary Ben Jonson. After reading the piece, Jonson was purported to say “It’s not bad William, but about the zombies . . . ” As William had a certain affinity for zombies (his father was a butcher), he quickly renamed the piece “Twelfth Night of the Living Dead” and mentioned the change to some locals. These locals could not remember the latter half of the title and the play was thus coined “Twelfth Night; or, What you Will”. We are proud to present the play as Shakespeare intended it.

47:59 Play Festival

The Inaugural
47:59 PLAY FESTIVAL
Writing In Rotation

producer Brendan Bradley

The inaugural 47:59 Play Festival is a race against the clock to write, rehearse and perform six brand new plays in exactly 47 hours and 59 minutes. Each of our six playwrights will write a first act of a brand new work over the course of one evening. The following morning, the piece is handed off to the director and actors, who rehearse the piece for performing that evening. After the first act comes down - that's when things get really interesting. The playwrights will then rotate and write the second act of one of their colleague's works from the previous night. In keeping with our namesake (and the mission statement), Impetuous Theater Group is excited about the random possibilities that will surely develop from one evening to the next as artists gather together and "write in rotation".
